African Ambassadors Roundtable
April 20, 2010 – Washington, DC
On April 20, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Health Alliance hosted a Roundtable to discuss women’s cancers and broader women’s health. The roundtable discussion was led by Ambassador Brinker and included 8 African Ambassadors, officials from African Embassies, corporate leaders, global health experts and US Government officials. The discussion focused on the need to address cancer in Africa and the role that public-private partnerships could play.
About KGHA Events
In order to accomplish its goals, the KGHA will sponsor and facilitate a variety of high-level events including a series of roundtables and its launch event in June 2010. The roundtables will allow the KGHA to establish Komen's name in the field of global health and also begin the process of establishing relationships between developing country ministers, corporate leaders, donors and global cancer and health advocates.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Global Health Alliance is the global leader in women's cancer awareness and advocacy by engaging decision-makers, cancer advocates and corporate partners in the battle against cancer worldwide. Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world's largest breast cancer organization, continues to expand our promise to save lives and end breast cancer globally. With the creation of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Global Health Alliance, we are broadening our focus around the world to also include women's health and women's cancers through an integrative approach to comprehensive care. A key focus of the Komen Global Health Alliance will be to add cancer resources, particularly screening and treatment information, to existing programs that are already testing for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in developing regions of the world.
Our Goals
The Alliance’s key priorities are to:
- Convene health and finance ministers, ambassadors, first ladies, global health experts, advocates and corporate leaders.
- Connect national and global decision makers with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®’s extensive grassroots networks in-country in order to downstage the disease and bring an end to `women’s cancers worldwide.
- Incorporate advocacy, treatment, prevention and awareness into existing global health structures and integrate across disease platforms.

Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has partnered or funded programs in more than 50 countries as part of our nearly $1.5 billion investment in breast cancer research, education and community programs since 1982.
